The United Nations (better known as the UN)

The United Nations is an international organization that was formed in a meeting in San Francisco in 1945.  It’s goal is to promote international peace, security, and cooperation.  These original terms were decided on by 51 countries in the beginning of the UN’s life.  Representatives from as many countries as possible meet together as the UN to discuss international and national problems that should be addressed. There are representatives of all ages as to correctly represent all peoples from all over.

There are six principles of the UN included the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship Council, International Court of Justice, and Secretariat. The whole United Nations body is larger, having 15 agencies as well as other programs.  It’s budget is very large, (2000-2001) $2,535 million.  It is used on a number of different efforts which are supposed to improve conditions for citizens in all nations, which the organization calls Humanitarian Relief Efforts.

The organization is very open to telling people what they are doing in the world and what they want to do.  On the website, there are constant news briefs and media links.  Getting publicized is important so that they can gain supporters, as well as raise awareness about international emergencies which often aren’t addressed or understood.

Ishmael was a part of a special children’s conference which created a stir about the severity of life for children in bad circumstances all over the world.  He was able to make a difference, along with other children.  The news coverage on children’s efforts is very apparent in the UN’s public information.  Though some UN goals are not reached, the attempts still help many.
