Still Me, By Christopher Reeve

Many of us know Christopher Reeve as the superman who became paralyzed, but he was much more than that. He’s always been one for adventure. He was a pilot, sailor, and rider. In this autobiography, I was taken into his mind as he tells of his well-publicized accident. Doing something he loved most, he was paralyzed essentially from the neck down. He took a fall off his horse, Buck, at a cross-country competition.

He tells of everything that happened, how his family and friends helped him deal with it, and of how his life was turned around by this tragic event. However, the entire book is not dedicated to his being a quadriplegic. Every other chapter, he tells tales of when he was young, of his acting endeavors, and even of falling in love. While I enjoyed reading about this, I’d often get too engaged in what was going on in his life currently or what had previously happened, and I began to get annoyed with these interruptions. Once I finished with the book, I found that’s a main factor of what kept me reading and kept me interested.

This story is truly inspirational, because he did not let his inhibitions keep him down. I was enthralled by it, and I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially anyone who is going through a rough time in their life, because it is so motivating, and it could even turn their life around. It really is the best read I’ve had in a long, long time.
